Kardiovaskuläre Implantatentwicklung-Infektionen-Proteomics: Prävention, Diagnostik und Therapie von Implantatinfektionen

Card-ii-Omics is an interdisciplinary network of scientists whose objective is to prevent cardiovascular implant infections through biofunctionalization and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of what can be a life-threatening complication.

Building on excellent preliminary work in the areas of implant development and infection biology and using the latest Omics-technologies, we aim to develop infection-resistant implants and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of implant infections.

Card-ii-Omics brings together the strengths of the various scientific institutions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and serves in particular as a springboard for young researchers in medicine, science and technology. The team's efforts focus on a health problem which is both individually and socially significant in order to create added value for the research landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Our goal is, through biofunctionalization, to prevent the infections associated with cardiovascular implants, especially heart valve prostheses, and to improve the diagnosis and treatment of these life-threatening complications. Because of a demographically influenced increase in the demand for cardiovascular implants, our research is of great political and economic importance.
